Dr. Simel Jenkins-Bey

The Barbershop Talk, Panelist

Dr. Simel Jenkins-Bey holds a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, with an Integrative Medical Specialty in Pain and Psychosocial Phenomena, from AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine in Austin, where he later taught diagnostic reasoning to graduate students. He has spent more than two decades working in East Asian medicine and ethnobotany, including nearly twenty years of clinical work in Austin, and has written on ethnobotany.

He has roots in Gullah-Geechee traditions, and his work has long focused on how traditional remedies live in families and communities and how people can use them wisely and with confidence. He has presented on health disparities at Dell Medical School and is a lifetime member of the All African Healing Arts Society.

He is the author of From the Field: Tales of Medicine and Spirit and several books on classical East Asian medicine. He lives in Austin, Texas.
